Hypothetical scenario for the system refs out there.

I'm learning Basic Engineering with the intent of getting Electrical Engineering (yes, you will be seeing Crash Courses used to reduce the time as Dom has mentioned in the Learning Stuff & Crash Course thread)

http://ukgatecommand.myfreeforum.org/ftopic1287-0-asc-10.php

.oO(So as long as I can mash fruit & pick my nose there's no worries.)

Once I have achieved Electrical Engineering, does Basic Engineering count towards learning the other Engineering skills?  So if I suddenly need to learn Mechanical Engineering, do I learn in 7 months (because I have Electrical Engineering) or in 4 months (because I have both Electrical Engineering and Basic Engineering)?

I imagine this would apply to other Basics which have a number of skills that relate to them.

This isn't desperately urgent.  JD knows my plans and stated his intention to kill Waterhouse just before he learns Basic Nanotech and decides to give the UKGC some really frightening toys.

If you have Basic Engineering but no Actual Engineering Skills then your first Engineering Skill is reduced by 3 months to 10 months.

If you have Basic Engineering and already have an Engineering Skill then your Engineering Skill is reduced by 3 months to 4 months.

But Basic Engineering says - this skill helps in leaning "AN" engineering skill, and the other ones all state "an" or "or" in the descriptions - indicating that you can use it to reduce the time taken to learn one skill.

If it had been the other way around and it had "and" or "all" skill listed, this would make Basic Biology / Basic Engineering which could affect three skills each quite overpowered as for a 3 month Training Time you would reduce the training of Engineering/Biology skills by 9 months.

Also as per the rules you can't Dreaming Spires or Player Character Tutor the Basic Skill learning time down - and as per Crash Course that only works on standard skills.

So it's a fixed three month training time, which then reduces one full skill by 3 months - otherwise it would make no sense NOT to get the Basic Skill first.
