I bet Broz owns one already - £5 says so.

Nope, he could make one out of bits from his shed though.

Colonel Calvins Lawn mower O death, scary but not quite as cool as the bike.

A bike? nah...
Battle Mower, yes.
Tank (Renault Clio), yes.

Tank, thought about it but wont fit through the gate.
I have an image of you on a sit on mower, with a mounted machine gun, and swinging a sythe at the enermy. Scary as hell, but you'd only be able to get about 4mph
But seriousely, mobility, transport and heavey fire power, and seriouse cool factor, pluss fits through the gate with ease. GAME ON.

Combat Gardening eh?
I'm always going to plump for this when it comes to the question of mechanised gate transport http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1KUVmBUV-o

The Warthog yes for sure, althoug it would need to be stripped down to go through the gate.
And the Glittera thing, that is what I expect Calvins armour to look like after a few more trips to Porton Down.

It's occured to me several times but I've never got round to posting, isn't Porton Down germ warfare research?

It used to be, but currently DSTL, Portdown Down is highly secret and they have a lot of areas of research, but no-one actually knows what they are... and if they do aren't telling.

And, while the uber-glue dries, all I can say in response to the looks that will be on your faces at the end of the month, is, "that you made me do it, it's all your fault."

Hauling desperately on this thread to bring it back to the subject of transport, we need to sort out getting stuff to the game, never mind about thro' the gate, in game.
My car struggled with the loaded caravan on the way back from Wroxton, not at all a long journey for me. I don't think it would be viable to try to get to Exeter (the next game, I think) with the caravan loaded as it is. I took a minimum personal loadout this time to avoid using my trailer, knowing I was towing the 'van home. If I'd have had to take my camp kitchen, cooker, lights, generator or any of the stuff I need at a site like Candlestone, I couldn't have done it.
The people who have tow hitches (myself, Rob, anyone else?) are usually already towing trailers full of their own kit, a lot of which goes to make a better game for everyone. Having got over the immediate problem of finding a home for the 'van to get it out of Dave's drive we need to think about longer term arrangements.
We need to:
Find ways of transporting some of the kit to games other than in the caravan. (a Transit van?)
Find a more powerful towing car.
Find other tow hitch equipped vehicles so that the 'van & personal trailers can be taken.
Anybody got any ideas/contacts in the removal industry/chinook helicopters?

I think I need to keep the question of transport on the boil. All the above queries are still valid. My car will not tow the caravan, loaded as it is to Exeter. Work has started in earnest on my Land Rover but it's not going to be finished this season.
The questions in my post above are still valid.

Question - What actually IS stored in the caravan? Do we actually need it all?

Good question Debs. It makes sense to list it, along with the props catalogue.
I'll have a re pack as soon as I can & make a list. If Dave or any of the organisers already has one please post it.
The big thing is the gate itself, obviously.

We have a car which is powerful enough to tow stuff. In principle I expect we would be willing to make a detour to pick stuff up and drop it off, depending on distances.
However we do not have a tow hitch and we can't spare the cash to get this fitted, based on the costs we were talking about before.
We do have a second small car which is not powerful enough to tow*, but into which we could fit a certain amount of props to just take to the event. The big car is usually crammed full of kit and people and therefore couldn't be used to take props without an extra journey.
I agree with Nigel that this is pretty important - would it be worth making this a sticky in the general chit-chat area or something more prominent? It's a bit tucked away in here.
*except it could possibly tow a small trailer or something to free up someone else's vehicle to pull bigger stuff, I don't know - again, no tow hitch though.

The president is responsible for storage and props - so Dave may be the best person to drop an email to Nigel.

Yes, it's a peculiar one that, 'cos Dave wanted rid of that responsibility, as I recall, then he went and picked up the presidency! Given the amount Dave has done for the game & his express wish to be free of the logistics, I'd rather sort this out without bothering him. I do agree that it should be somewhere more prominent, things will fall apart if it's not resolved.
I have my own trailer & access to at least one other, if people can tow small loads to free up bigger vehicles for pulling the caravan.
