Riot Shields

I have two of these that I would like to use at events.
However, do they need to be made LRP-safe (ie edged in pipe lagging) before I can use them at Stargate?

OK, I know I should have put this in the rules section, but an answer soon would be good so as I can have to lag them both if necessary.
Jean-Pierre

i don't know the answer.

But I have answered Wink
Woody

I have a personal opinion but somethign like this needs the refs/organisers to answer really.

Sorry

Its ones for the system refs really but I've seen a nasty cut and a couple of LRP weapons shredded at a game where someone had a riot shield.

Well for the most part we dont need to worry about weapons being shredded.

For the cost of a few lengths of split pipe lagging, I'd do it on principle.
Freeman

The idea is to use them as phys reps for Ballistic Shields rather than as actual riot shields, so I won't be intending to get into melee with them.
That said, in any combat game it's always a possiblity, so I'm more than happy to lag the edges anyway.

Have put my response on our 'props' thread, I think we were typing at the same time!
Fenric

Personally, I have no thoughts either way.
Dangermouse

When I`ve made shields before that have had a solid core/base I`ve tended to cover the front and edges in LD45 in case people do collide with them.
Richard Tyler

LD45 is less likely to get punched through which is always a problem with pipe lagging. It would give a neater, less exaggerated edge too.
Freeman

aye, but it's more of a pita, more expensive, and makes it look less like a riot shield (assuming you mean the full covering like dangermouse suggested) and more like a regular larp shield which I already have, which hampers it for use elsehwhere, like Airsoft (not that I like to get as much varied use from my props as I can, honest).
Richard Tyler

no a full covering would defeat its use as a riot shield Smile
