Props and propmakingHello all 
As those who were at the last meeting will know, we are running very close to the wind fundswise. The standard of props is always very high in our system and I do not want this notice to bring down that attention to detail at all but if we are to be a self sustaining society we need to have funds in the bank for the next event before the next event, so that we are not continually paying back individuals who can lend funds to the society on a short term basis.
I would like to ask all organisers to please consider the following when making new props.
1. Do we have one already?
2. Is there anything in stores that we can repaint/reuse/alter?
3. How much does our new prop cost? Can we build it cheaper/simpler/ from things we have already?
4. Can the prop be reused at future events? (By respraying, altering or just as it is.)
What I dont want to see (and no offence meant to past organisers as this wasnt a consideration at the time) is props that could be reused being burned or thrown away as it is literally society money up in smoke. There is still budget for new props but if we are going to be running financially ahead rather than behind we need to run a little leaner than we have been, albeit for a short while.

To help people know if we already have something, or something that can be adapted it would be helpful if the various props catalogues that have recently been created were made sticky, & kept up to date. Somewhere down the line there are links to my photobucket with piccies of what I have, could that be stickied too? If you can't find it I'll post a new link.
I'll also try to catalogue the material I have available. many of my props have been made out of scrap. My rocket launcher is offcuts of plumbing pipe & guttering & a 99p 1911 from Wilko's. DIY projects & skips yield a ready supply of offcuts of sheet material. Skips at engineering or electronics companies can provide all manner of weird looking stuff. The RSGB run radio rallies which are a ready source of electronica that doesn't look like the inside of a PC and often does look (and is) of military origin.

I have up to date prop lists available for organisers. If you want them please let me know your email addy by PM and I will send them out, but please be aware that the closest events organisers may well be altering some of those props, so it is best to wait until after the event previous to yours for the most up to date information of what is available to you.
