Feeling my age - again

The danger of following You Tube links.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcsVPis1iNs&NR=1

So what music have you heard lately that makes you feel your years?
Mali

i know it well Smile
Fenric

Hold on... Mali and You both know this... I know this... and I wouldn't exactly say that we're all ancient.

Meanwhile to add to Dangermouse's list (and no Pink Ladies here) the following were songs of my youth that I remember quite well and have seen them on You Tube recently and went *Grief, was it THAT long ago*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYtdW5bD-7Q (Was playing when I first went to a nightclub in Liverpool)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PP1HEFlkdY (School Disco Moment)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW_hSNHZiBc (Losing my Virginity)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0Mzr_A-Q0I (My first housemate at University used to play this song consistantly until Mark and I took the tape.. TAPE I SAY... of this and had a funeral pyre)

The worst of doing this bloody thing for Simon is this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37GrbCUvZEM : which is both a requiem for a very close friend of mine who died the year after it was released and to be honest it reminded me of him for a very long time, and our childhoods that we'd spent together.... plus.... it was the song that I ended up in tears over when I split up with my fiancee a few years later - I still can't listen to the song without thinking back - not as old as the other ones, but still the same feelings.

And not one item from Grease... but for good measure just for Simon.

Some good choices there and some weird tastes.

A mix of some of my vids

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_7Kp_TapA4  - just one that stuck in my mind

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXPUkrz7Uow  - one that reminds of a very special girl (long before I met my wife)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP1w5Hl8D0E - first song I ever played at a gig

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jJWQkVgDs4  - a song me and some friends ripped off for LRPing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FGk63Fv7t4&feature=related  - and one that reminds me of youthful lust

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8rNFpr49Nw  -  and one from my student days listened to it a lot at Uni though it an oldie by then
Fenric

Who doesn't like a bit of Teenage Dirtbag

Excuse me... STRANGE TASTES... When you have "I Touch Myself"

Well if you're on about the first song you played at a gig... I was a choir boy at school (please - everyone assume any jokes you can do have already been done), the first "gig" I did was at St Paul's Cathedral where we did the Requiem Mass by Mozart, my favourite song from it being : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFq-HHA0k2E

This was therefore I think the first piece of music other than our school song that I'd sung in public. Meanwhile... you think lyrics of songs are bad today... here's my School Song : http://www.merchanttaylors.com/senior-boys/song.html
Dangermouse

Nothing strange in my tases (much).

As long as I don`t play Bannanphone I`m probably OK

And yeah we all love teenage dirtbags, err Teenage Dirtbag

And another good one (though I prefer the PUSA cover)  - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PITnJAnmjqw

ooo, found this one - banned by my parents  -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN45OjB-cCU&feature=related
Fenric

Yes, I remember that from long ago...

But if you're talking youth and teenage dirtbags - he's the first woman (apart from Sally James from Tiswas) that I longed for

If we're doing dodgy foreign language pop songs then this is one of my favorites

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQYQTFudrqc

Always preferred the german version to the english one.
sm0keyb

All right, if you will keep throwing down ageist challenges:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dDIsJ6eraPU

Can't claim to have seen them in 1935, but has anybody else even heard of them? My old man & I used to listen to them, Glen Miller & Humphrey Littleton, on the Light programme (Radio 2 to the children) & Radio Luxembourg (Who remembers that, as well)
Dangermouse

We know we can`t beat you Nigel - wasn`t sured if I`d get some 17th Century Madrigal though  Wink

This one is for an old girlfriend who was definately missing some rounds from the magazine -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q0fpJYsCVg

And I just had a thought perhaps my next character can be a French demolitions expert - Bertand Plastique
Olivia Chase

Darnit!  My speakers are broken and I can't hear a thing!

Speaking of that (and I must confess to having owned 2 of their albums) this always makes me laugh

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3qGnqv_tqc
Dangermouse

And the whole of this album helped me get my head together in the late 90s

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLXULfN77TQ
Fenric

I like Alanis - and yes I loved that Album as well.
Fenric

But eventually childish thoughts and music from the days of when I was young leave me as I enter my adult-hood it went from Grease, the Pink Ladies and Don't Fear The Reaper into something which is much more adult :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxn567bHny8
Dangermouse

That`s almost as bad as being Rick Rolled.
Fenric

Yup - Aqualinked Smile
Dangermouse

Ooh, picked up a couple of songs I loved but hadn`t heard for ages (must dig out the CD)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMiSiTcz5lo&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9n_1zNPnJA

although I do like the parody of the latter one in this:

kiwi

then there always

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_1RqyNdzbE  Twisted Evil

at least there is nothing about plastic (shudder) like Aqualinked
Fenric

I like the Who - but pretty much now just know them as "The band who do the CSI theme tune" - since I like Who Are You? and Baba O'Reilly quite a lot (even before CSI)

But coming back to sensible "legendary" songs - like some of the Who Stuff... there is this - which a lot of people prefer the Pet Shop Boys Cover - but the original is still the best

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDkBzkA9L4s

And this is one of the best performances of the song by U2 since the original.
sm0keyb

Stormin' The best rock band in the history of the world, ever!
Duncan Waterhouse

The what now?

Shocked  U2?  Buncha 1980's romantics who discovered rock?   Razz

Led Zeppelin?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owmrpWyTdxQ
Aerosmith??    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXxW3f41shM

The Who are sublime.  Rate them with The Kinks (another pleasure).

Music AND Good TV

OK then, and going back some...

From the North:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Wk25TuaCwk

From the South:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd_diPTrjpI

From the East:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q8G5AQpuxM

From the West

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsiPtvfdvDY

All shared similar levels of teenage fanaticism.

And while I'm here, JT's favourite song
