Event 14Hot or not time folks.
First off a massive thank you to Leon, Ross, Polly, Chris, Elly, James, and Croyden for running an epic event where we actually managed to make friends and was made of total alien things WIN.
Thanks to all the crew without whom this event could not have happened, and for their super froth levels. Big thanks to those who managed to play an entire Battalion+ for two hours, and the rest of you who suffered courtroom waffling.
Thanks to the other players, it was really fun playing someone different and hanging with all the cool kids talking tech and wild pipe dreams.
so anyways:
HOT - Ice cold gate room for beer storage
NOT - Ice cold gate room waiting for testing
HOT - One eye flying purple people eaters
NOT - being the first person to find them
HOT - Offworld missions
NOT - falling over lots (stupid feet not used to wandering around in dark)
HOT - Having a gun the size of my forarm
NOT - only being able to call single with it
HOT - Glowing orb of Orby dhoom
NOT - watching it mate with Captain Thorne
HOT - Russian scientist space explorers
NOT - their pikey charge for it attitude
HOT - conversations about black ops missions with the FSB
NOT - realising that I'm never going to make an assassin/spy/secret agent in real life
HOT - waffling comms nonsense with Van Wolfe
NOT - not having enough background to keep up with the technowaffle
HOT - The Staff weapon Gun cam with smart shades
NOT - being unable to think of something cool for it to do.
HOT - Hand cracking the ancient Ethernaut language
NOT - being second person to do it
HOT - conversations about god with a "bad guy"
HOTTER - him trusting us
VOLCANO - being able to help him
FUSION - swapping holy books
NOT - nothing (maybe him getting hurt, but he got better)
HOT - Obi Wan Michelev
HOTTER - The rescue mission to get him
VOLCANO - troubleshooting the plan to make it robust
NOT - being told by COs that all we need is the magic letter
HOT - Screwing with information flow by adhering to CoC
NOT - Screwing with information flow by adhering to CoC
HOT - Tablet retrieval mission
NOT - missing the fun bit because im watching the possible enemy contact near the gate
HOT - all the rescue the missing team members missions
NOT - suddenly developing an unknown undercover team working with the Ethernauts with no arranged callsigns or comms equipment.
HOT - The intel guys conversations
NOT - having to look menacing at other players while they walk up and asking them to move on, makes me feel bad IRL
HOT - 37% of all i say is sarcasm
NOT - 5% is the truth
HOT - Yes naked
NOT - thats in the 37%
All in all brilliant event, well done.
MORE!!!!!

My turn
HOT: Organizers and Refs for doing a cracking job
NOT: Croyden clearly starting out needing sleep and finishing broken. Dude you are a trooper
HOT: No Cards to solve tech problems
NOT: No able to use my new cards
HOT: HALO Jumping out of a perfectly good spaceship
NOT: The Military Centric feel introduced by Kryton. It sucked when the UKGC became too Intel centered and it Sucks to have the SEF too Military centered.
HOT: So many crew!
HOT: Gary Numan themed aliens. Go Leon!
NOT: Holding the gate open to base for the duration of an offworld mission. IC it makes sense OOC it prevents other missions and players going out.
HOT: Thorne for suggesting we Nick a spaceship and it actually happening!
HOT: The weather was awesome
HOT: Seeing Dave/Daniels back
HOT: New players throwing themselves into the game.
NOT: Failure to understand than almost all missions were two gates away and not one leading to OOC/IC flange to fix it.
HOT: THose stuffed olives
HOT: "Don't worry I have emergency cheese" Cheers Will/Pemberton
Thats enough for now i feel.

First attempt at this so bear with me...
HOT - Being taken out on missions purely on the strength of being a medic regardless of my actual system knowledge.
NOT - Failing to remember to ask for feats. Or ammunition. Curses....
HOT - Sneaking around videotaping a torture session (this is mainly a comment about the wide variety of missions that I was involved with. I would imagine its difficult keeping missions fresh and involving. Equally I was impressed that all the missions where not 'Go here. Shoot this' even though some people might have liked those missions more!!)
NOT - I REALLY should read the combat rules before I turn up to a game. It was not until I sat down that I realised I had no idea if I was hit or not. Oops.
HOT - Running to administer emergency medical aid to a fallen team mate accompanied by a rapidly firing Paddy and Esel (sic?) from Wellesley.
NOT - Finding out that the body we where running towards was in fact a booby trapped ethernaut and having to leg it back again (again being covered by Paddy and Esel)
HOT - Being 'Crash Course' -d in Medium Weapons by Col Thorne while the rest of Team North where crawling through the cave system to avoid the huge rock fall (all to reclaim a tablet)
NOT - Realising that the team had left pretty much all their kit behind but then wanted it meaning Col THorne and I had to pick it up and cart it to them (IC through the tunnels - OOC walking round)
HOT - "Captain Thorne. Can I just check that you successfully pulled off Major Calvin?" (Hilarious end to freeing Calvin from a huge Magnet after reclaiming the tablet)
NOT - "Captain Thorne. Can I just check that you successfully pulled off Major Calvin?" (Nightmares and waking up screaming)
HOT - The mission to hold the communications suite with North and Wellesley
NOT - Having to keep checking that the Home Gate was still occupied every five minutes
HOT - Choking out a harmless woman in order to gain access to the chest that contained a tablet.
NOT - Making the poor lady playing the NPC scream when I appeared ninja like out of the darkness!! (Sorry!!)
I could keep going and going actually...
It was clear to me that there was loads of work put into the event, with kitting, organisation of crew, actually crewing, writing missions, keeping the missions on line wih the main plot.
Very very impressed.

Hot and NotOK, my turn...
Hot - The refs and crew. Sounds hokey but they put in a sterling effort, especially since some of the crew are new to LARP. Really keen with a good attitude (this coming from a somewhat jaded old lag) Nice to hear monsters scream and call out to their colleagues when you shoot them - gives a little moral tweak to the game. Special mention to Leon who put up with no less than three interruptions from me on sunday morning when he obviously had more important things to do and didn't yell, scowl or put a cigarette out on my forehead (which was what I deserved)
Hot - Understanding the plot, fully and completely for the first time at a stargate event (this is no reflection on previous events - they were just as much fun, but I didn't always "get it")
Hot - Pulling off Calvin (need I say more, and I wasn't even there)
Hot - Working with the same team for every mission. Encourages more I/c roleplay and team bonding, we worked better together when we knew one another. Special mention - to Paddy, Thorne and all the others who helped me understand the mystery of the four-point sling system, and put up with me describing everything that shoots bullets as "a gun" (I saw them wincing)
Hot - "Old Bloke" having more kit than was conceivable, but taking time out to find me araldite when my plastic toy gun went into total meltdown.
Hot - digging in the scat pit (don't ask)
Hot - Realising I had been accepted by my team when, whilst running across the sand covered in flourescent green gloop swinging a sword at a fungus I heard one of them shout "Go on Coops, F**k it up!"
Hot - The ice cave, giant fungus, steam guns, props et al that go to making the suspension of reality that much easier. Grats to everyone concerned with their construction and utilisation.
Not - The inevitable Saturday afternoon lag. All the plot details have been collected and the technical guys are doing their thing. Great for them (its what they're there for) but a little slow for the gung-ho suicidal gun bunnies like me. Perhaps some target practice, combat drills or light PT to keep us amused?
Not - Losing the genny on saturday night. I don't mind blundering about in the dark on a mission, but not back at base. Of course there was nothing the crew could do about it, but perhaps it should be mentioned to the site owner.
Overall, excellent. Well done Leon et al for the event. Looking forward to the christmas gig.

it's what all the cool kids are doing so.............
HOT-Ice cave, it looked great and the casme was an awesome touch and so much fun crawling round the cave system.
NOT-Being attacked by alien jelly fish of doom while crawling around the caves, they scared the crap out of me every time.
HOT- Watching Jaffa get slaughtered as they ran through the bottle neck of the cave, most entertaining
NOT-Aint nothing bad about that
Hot-Team we can build anything thanks to Klause, Jess, Aiden and many other contributions to building and making props on the spot for thermocuplors, vidio camera, naqudah electro-magnet, and others including my favourite, the portable high voltage bug zapper.
NOT-our plan to turn the super soldiers "teleporting" onto camp into goo going out the window due to them dropping not teleporting.
HOT-the jelly fish aliens, they were so cool and the props were fantastic
NOT-I can't seem to find a flaw
HOT-Eathanaut pistols, there is something realy satisfying about calling quad damage
NOT-damn those 30 second reloads
HOT-Defending the ethanaut comms device against lots of energetic ethanauts, it was chaos
NOT-Fending for my life against 6 of em while waiting for backup and short on ammo.
HOT-the event overall, thank you everyone from crew, refs, organizers and players
NOT-My poor attempt to survive on nothing but noodles, chocolate and crisps, I'm suffering for it now.
I had a great time.

Hot- The effort put in by the crew.
Hot - The effort put in by Leon.
Not - In the middle of Sundays firefight someone ruining the atmosphere by talking about the vote for secretary over the radio.
Not - Commander Gordon being broken.
Hot - Copper being a Ninja psycho in the Sunday battle.
Not - Some people not being given anything to do for long periods because of plot hoarders.
Hot - Having a kick ass sound system on the spaceship.
Hot - Seeing a monster try to use Ian Taylor for cover ( one of the wookie guys )
Not - People going out of character in the in character area too often.
Hot - The Brig being back!

Hot -
The Ice Cave
Being 'this far' from a Jaffa and unseen on Friday night
Chasm crawling
Jellyfish creatures and hammertime!
Being really useful on Friday and Saturday
Learning Ethernaught-fu
MALP disco
The awesome weather
Seeing everyone again
Not-
Missing all the plot due to not being 'high enough' to be allowed to get involved
Having nothing at all to do all day Sunday
Being ignored with regard to essential society legalities/issues
All in all I enjoyed it and I would have loved to have seen more of the plot, especially all of the sub plot lines that no one pursued. Fantastic props and dressing. Fantastic monsters. My only request is more plot for the little people please

Firstly, gotta say thanks to the organisers and the crew - brilliantly done!
Hot: the first night's intel mission, laying between 2 trees in the open whilst some baddies walk next to me, praying I wont get seen. Never been so scared in my life!
Hot: the ice cave and everything to do with it - fantastic idea
Hot: using civil engineering during a game! Shame we couldnt open up the atrium guys *grins*
Hot: the little flying ice critters, totally freaked me out when they came out of nowhere
Hot: the trader family (sorry I couldn't be your daughter), especially Uncle, brilliantly played.
Hot: finding out that someone in the family had walked off with our gear while we were trying to watch them.
Hot: using a staff weapon
Hot: brain in a jar - who comes up with this stuff?
Hot: Disco MALP
Hot: Great weather
Hot: Seeing folks again
Not: guarding that flamin' gate for hours on end
Not: being completely out of the loop on Sunday and having nothing to do apart from guard said gate for hours.
Not: lack of generator
Not: Being eaten alive by midges when I am allergic to them

+ Ice Cave and associated gribblies
+ Vice Admiral Hardy Rescue Mission
+ The Weather
+ Merrick in a Jar
+ Merrick hooked up to Li'l MALP
+ CJ choking a lizard, in public.
+ French Hip-Hop

Not:
- The 'If you're not military, you're not coming on my mission' attitude from some players.
- Jess bein sent in to enemy teritory to repair a DHD ... ALONE (and subsequently having to be rescued)
- (Lack of) Base Security allowing the Doon Family to walk off with kit.
- Seeing people not involved in either part of the 'big finale'.
- People not understanding the 'gate-hop' involved in travel to most worlds.
- Being sick as a dog on saturday eve / sunday.
- Bugs, the lil bastards saw me as a mobile smorgasboard!
More later if I think of any

HOT - The Effort put in by the organisers
NOT - The journey down south.
Hot - The large amounts of keen, well up for it crew. You were all stars
Not - The game slowed down a little on Sunday, and I heard afterwards that a lot of players were left sitting around, Although to be fair I believe this was all down to IC issues.
HOT - The more military theme, I actually like it a lot.
NOT - Civilian player characters being excluded, they have specialist skills and compliment the military characters IMO. From the very few episodes of SG I have scene civilians are considered valued members of the overall team. It's an IC thing though, so I guess it is a case of changing the culture IC.
HOT - The two hour fire fight on Sunday afternoon, amazing stuff from the crew, death screams, falling over injured. I think at the next main event I will bring offerings for them in the form of beer.
NOT - Cheating I saw..
HOT - A lot more IC conversations in the IC area. I noticed and was pulled into a lot less OOC stuff.
HOT - Team Welsey for being friendly and including me as a new member
NOT - Not having anything really to give the new medics to keep them included on their first event.
HOT - The Ice caves
NOT - The lack of lighting at night
HOT - The Friday night drop mission, made of win.
NOT - I think we might need more phys rep ammo knocked up. The initial concept of enforcing ammunition limits was to prevent players just shooting their way through non combat encounters. This has been proved to be a non-sensical argument again and again, with players interacting and getting deeply involved with non-combat plots. If it needs volunteers to make some I am happy to volunteer. Don't ger me wrong If there is a decent IC reason for us having a finite ammo supply great, I love it. otherwise it's just a bit toss.
Hot - the floating beasties, light thingys at night. Had a scary ethereal quality of them.
NOT - Losing my walkie-talkie charger.
Hot - Debbies loan of kit
NOT - The amount of percieved plot hogging that seemed to be going on.
NOT - Sunday afternoon keeping the gate locked out, preventing ten+ players doing anything. Seriously bad IC call whoever made it chaps.
NOT - Base security. Seriously it is a joke. Yes we are all really elite specialists. But we are on a mission and really Elite specialists I believe are very good at keeping their own camp secure. One person 'she' did loads, yes she. Well its an IC thing and good things happen to good people who prove they are capable of doing a shitty job...
Wesley we did our thing on the perimeter, got a kicking and I still feel that we pale in comparison..
Overall I had imense amounts of fun, and really happy I have joined the player base. Thanks all.

HOT – The vast amount of work that had been put in by the refs and crew
HOT – Props both for the monsters and players
Hot – The Doon family
Hot – Getting to go out on missions with different teams
not – Not really getting to go on a mission with the team I was assigned to
HOT –People being prepared to explain rules and generally help out a new player and making allowances when I inadvertently got things wrong.
Hot -Great event
Not –Sunday, too many people sidelined for the conclusion

Well here's my seriously good:
HOT - Leon, his other organising team & refs. You did a great job guys
HOT - Enthusiastic crew,
HOT - The weather, it was really kind to us.
HOT - Retaking the ice cave from the Ethernaughts single handed
HOT - Getting to play Jeremy for a bit & using the Sharps/Colts
HOT - The "tea" conversation between Jeremy & Jess & Izzy.
HOT - The new players
HOT - The props
HOT - The final firefight.
HOT - Getting the canvas palace up correctly... In the dark!
HOT - Much less general litter than previous games
HOT - More organised feel due to the Crichton factor
And the not so good
NOT - The site generator packing in
NOT - My generator breaking
NOT - Snapping out of character for much of Saturday evening.
NOT - A lot of OC noise from the crew area
NOT - Sidelining civvies due to the Crichton factor
NOT - Sloppy, sloppy base guard despite the Crichton factor
NOT - Very few willing to do gate guard or perimeter guard.
And the seriously pissy:
NOT Casual attitude of site bod - There's the generator, there's a cable somewhere, no instructions on use. No gas supply, kitchen outside door locked. Really poor service.
NOT IC actions running very late on Saturday night/Sunday morning apparently not under ref control.
NOT My staff physreps disappearing all of Sunday, again apparently not a ref approved piece of gameplay.
EDIT
MEGA HOT - Sorry I missed it first time round. Absolutely brilliant to see Dave back & looking fit& well again

Well here's my Hot and Not take on Event 14:
Hot - All the organisation and effort by the refs, crew, etc. Absolutely superb job and a really easy event to play.
Not - Being bitten by all those bloody insects; I've got a dozen bites on each hand and wrist plus neck and head.
Hot - Emerging into an ice cave, that was awesome even for all the problems it brought with it.
Not - Not getting properly rested up on Thursday night and feeling shattered by the start of the event let alone by the end of it.
Hot - Merrick's brain in a jar and all the bizarre things it entailed, e.g. Kincaid stroking the jar and the hook up to Lil MALP.
Not - Having to tidy up on the Saturday morning after going to bed fairly early Friday night.
Hot - The don't engage in combat whilst on surveillance even though you could be fired at mission. Trust me it's more of a challenge not to shoot than to simply be outnumbered/outgunned/outclassed.
Not - Having to tidy up on the Sunday morning even though I'd left bin bags out for people to use on the Saturday.
Hot - Running through a gate Rich had dialled and realising it was mistake just 12 inches past the event horizon! More importantly the nerve racking minutes Kev and I had before chewing dirt as Wellesley ran through the gate after us.
Not - Being excluded from both finales on the Sunday, although it was enjoyable to play the audience at the talkie.
Hot - Realising I'd been excluded from the finales and deciding with Marc, Carl and Kev to initiate our own post event ship theft just before time out.
Hot - Blundering around in the dark avoiding pikeys and trying to hijack shuttles.
Hot - The new players, for being so enthusiastic and making me realise I do know something about the game.
Hot - Being referred to as "The Butterfly Man", thanks Leon it was priceless.
