Electricity at CandlestoneI'm planning to take my generator to Candleston. I've taken it to every event so far on a site that has no power & happily provided a limited power supply for players to use. Though the cost of fuel has come up a few times & to be fair, no one has ever said that they think it is unreasonable of me to ask for contributions, so far as I can recall I've paid for all the fuel used myself. If my memory is faulty & I've maligned any body there, please accept my apologies.
This event I'm taking about 10 litres of fuel in a 20L jerrican & a five litre can. I'll leave the 5L can in a prominent place, & basically, if it's empty, it needs filling. If any of the players care to take it & bring it back filled, that would be much appreciated. If, by the end of the weekend, there's 10L or more of petrol in the jerrican I'll carry on bringing the genny to events as needed. If not, I won't bring it, or only for my own convenience.
I will run the generator as required for the weekend, or until fuel runs out. I will not buy or go & fetch more fuel myself during the weekend. If anyone (non drivers?) prefers to chip in cash instead of fuel I'll make that available if more fuel needs to be bought.
I hope this doesn't come across as too "stroppy" I've spent quite a lot of money over the occasions I've brought the genny, & now I'm fully retired I can't afford to just soak up the cost.
For technical info, it's about 2kW output. It'll run lights, probably a caravan kettle or similar load, charge batteries & laptops but I wouldn't try to run a desktop computer from it.
Looking forward to a great game.

Sounds more than fair to me. I dont drive myself (getting a lift there and back) but i will gladly donate some cash to aid the filling.

Likewise, not being in a position to drive to a fuel station, I will pass some cash your way Nige

I am also very happy to contribute to the fuel. I know the main building is lit now, but I don't know what plans there are for it IC so will be preparing for the med bay to do it's world renowned 4077th MASH impersanation, and where would MASH be without generators?

How many amps can we draw without tripping it?

How long will we run on 10L of fuel based on previous events?
(what fuel does it run on? Petrol? Diesel? 2-Stroke?)

Folks
For info
We will have the site generator powering the kitchen but as far as I am aware it only powers the kitchen and lights.
Cheers

Well I dont think I'll need electric for anything but I dont think your being "stroppy" it more than fair to ask people to controbute so you dont have to pay for everything.
And if I do end up using it even if its a matter of through others needs Id like to say thankyou in advance for your effort.

It's 2.3kW so 8-10 Amps should be OK. I've run 1.8kW of lighting from it (2x500W floods = 2x400W festoons) for hours without worrying it.

It's been a while but I think it'll run for most of a day on 10L. It's a 4stroke petrol engine.

I was waiting for someone to start "Hot or not" but in it's absence I'll say here, a big "Thank you" to all who chipped in for fuel or helped fetch & carry. The contributions even went as far as covering a little of my previous outlay. Thanks again everyone, definitely a "Hot". The genny will definitely be there next time it's needed. For future ref. a player contribution of about a pound each will easily keep it fuelled for an event, even with some daytime running to keep battery powered gizmos charged. Where we have a working gate, I'd expect to do that to keep the gate battery charged.

I'll be taking my genny again, same arrangement as last time. If it's needed & people contribute for the fuel it'll run, if they don't, it won't.

Thanks Nigel. Can it connect to the kitchen electricity supply ok?

Candleston has a genny on site for the kitchen and it can be hired for £100. Have a chat with Mark when you get onsite and he should be able to sort it out for you

If the kitchen supply has a 16A outdoor (blue) connector, yes
|
dante73
|
Sadly not, it's a a 15a connector lead with an 230V AC supply from the generator.
In case it's relevant, please bear in mind that the players will not be based in the fort for this event.
Cheers,
Leon.
