Dave. AnnouncementHi everyone. This is Dave's sister.
Firstly thanks to everyone for your messages of support.
As you are aware Dave has taken another stroke.
On behalf of the family we would like to request that for the time being could no-one visit Dave in hospital as he is undergoing various tests that will be taking it out of him. I will pass on all your best onto Dave but in the meantime if you could respect the wishes of the family until further notice.
Please do not be offended by this request but I assure you that we only have Dave's best interests at heart.
If there any changes either myself, Sean or Alex will post an update.
Tracy.
Note to Admin/moderator: Could this post please be made a sticky for the time being. Many thanks.

Hi Everyone,
Just an update on Dave, He has shown much improvement since last week. He has been moved to a specialist unit today, and the Doctors and staff feel very positive that he will make a really good recovery.
I have passed on all your well wishes to Dave from the people on this forum and he was happy for me to post a reply this soon.
Once again, we would like to request that no-one go and see Dave as some of the physio and alike is taking it out of him.
If you wish, you can send a PM to me for Dave and I will be more than happy to pass on any messages to him.

Hi Everyone again
Another update on Dave, He was feeling a little unwell yesterday with pains in his leg. After a ultrasound type scan they have found a DVT and performed a small procedure to prevent any clots moving to his chest. He has moved hospitals again for this treatment.
I have passed on all you messages that I have received and he was happy for me to let you know this. We would like to thank you all for your get well wishes for Dave.
No visitors apart from family at the moment but I will keep you all up to date. Please continue to send any messages to me and I will be glad to send them on.

Hi Everyone again.
As promised a further update. I visited Dave today in hospital and he wanted to write this message to you. I've cut and pasted what he typed as I don't have internet access on my laptop for him to do in the ward.
Hi Everyone,
I would like to start by saying thanks far all the visits, get well cards, e-mails/messages (although I haven’t got access to them) and texts I have received.
I’d like to say sorry to Simon Hill for leaving him in lurch with regards the event next month, although everything will be better without my help.
Moving onto what has happened…
On Easter Monday (13th April), I had a minor haemorrhage which left the right hand side off me useless for a small period time and over a week I got the use of everything back (as Alex Armstrong can verify, as he visited on Saturday 18th April).
Unfortunately on Monday 20th April, I had another more severe haemorrhage, which once again left my right hand side useless (effectively a stroke).
I made good progress, getting some use out of my right leg, but unable to stand up and getting some feeling in parts of my arm. On Tuesday 28th April, it was decided to transfer me to another hospital which specialises in rehabilitation of people with strokes. I was at this hospital 3 hours when one of their Doctors examined me and come to deduction that I might have a DVT (Deep Vain Thrombosis) in my right leg (it should be noted that I had previously had 2 DVT’s in my left leg and had been on Warfarin for 9 years to thin my blood). On Wednesday 29th April I went bact to original hospital to confirm the new DVT. Within 4 hours I was having a minor operation to put a ‘blood filter’ (easiest way to explain it) in me, to stop any clot travelling to my lungs, heart or brain. I was then put on daily injections of anti-coagulant to thin my blood to try to prevent any further DVT’s.
I then started physiotherapy again… at this point:
I can stand again.
I can’t use my right arm, but have sensation throughout my arm and hand.
I can speak(ish) and as many people have found out to regret my brain has not been effected. Something you should never do is think “the person has a speech problem or speaks slowly there must be something wrong with them mentally” as it’s not the case.
So what is planned next for me… I’m going to have the ‘blood filter’ removed next weeks and my new friends (blood specialists – I’m there 6th case like this in 10 years..!) and higher dosage of anti-coagulant to thin my blood to try to prevent any further DVT’s, but not to thin so that I am going to haemorrhage again. Then once the anti-coagulant level is satisfactory I’ll go back to the rehabilitation hospital.
It is not expected that I’ll be released soon and I don’t know what I will be able to do.
I do however plan to be on site for an hour on the Saturday 20th June, just to say thanks and HI.
AND GOD HELP ANYBODY WHO TRIES TO STOP ME FROM BEING THERE.
But moving on from that, I do not feel that I can do the job as system referee to best of my ability. So please take this as my resignation from the post. If I’m back to my old self in future years then I will stand again.
Anyway, I’ve waffled on, thanks for all the best wishes and please stay in touch as there few things so lonely as no news or anything from outside the walls of a hospital.
Dave.
Once again we will keep you informed as and when

Hello All
Just an update about Dave, Last week while he was in hospital he collapsed and passed out. The crash team arrived to him and over a couple of days several tests were done and appears that he has developed new clots, one up against the filter, one the wrong side of the filter (the lungs, heart and brain side) and one by his kidney. So after this latest set back, he is bed bound with his legs in the air and has a lot of medication to take including morphine and a greatly increased dose of anti coagulant and they are taking regular blood tests daily to monitor this so not to cause another brain haemorrhage.
He spends most of his time asleep and hasn’t been able to do any physiotherapy.
According to the consultant looking after Dave, provided Dave has no further set backs, it is highly unlikely that Dave will leave the ward he is on within the next month. After that it will depend on the rehabilitation ward how long he spends in hospital. So I do not think Dave will be able to make his planned hour visit to the event, nor do I believe Dave has not been told he probably won’t be able to turn up, as it is a small goal he has set himself and we do not want him to be disappointed.
Please feel free to send Dave texts as he is soooo bored and can do with hearing from his friends.
Dave also says thanks to all for the messages and well wishes that I have shown him off the forum and the personal messages to me for him from you guys.
Regards
Tracy
