Could be useful.http://www.rdanderson.com/stargate/lexicon/glyphs/glyphs.htm
I know it's in books etc but at least this is simple and all in one place.

Aye, a handy thing indeed.
Thanks for posting it.
I'm a little confused about the glyphs on the DHDs. Maybe a series affictionado can put me right.
As I understand it.
Each glyph when dialling represents part of a complex 6 point location system.
The seventth glyph being the point of origin.
Is the 7th glyph the big red button, meaning that every DHD would have to be slightly different.
OR Are they all the same, and the big red button is the 'GO' button?
I ask because I'm sure that in different episodes they dial both 6 or 7 glyph panels.

Hmm... Interesting that!
If there are millions of Stargates & each one has it's own single identifier for point of origin they can't all be in the DHD glyphs, can they? The red button must be programmed with the point of origin. According to that a DHD couldn't be moved from one place to another, unless, of course, the system updates a newly connected DHD.

THe POI glyph is not needed as it is the big red button. Now I personally would assume that the crystals inside the DHD take care of that specific aspect themselves. Don't over think it. Its science FICTION acfter all.

I'm just thinking from a prop perspective.
If we paint glyphs on the DHDs, can they all be the same, or do they need to have a variance?

Make em all the same for me.

The red button is the origin point and so is effectively the 7th glyph. Each gate has one glyph different from the others which is the origin glyph. In that link it is the earth gate as it has the inverted v with a circle above it which we know is earth. In the film, without the DHD to help (although there arent any dhds in the film) they had to work out the 7th glyph before they could dial.
Theoretically the glyphs should change anyway depending where you are in the galaxy because as it is they are all viewed from the same viewpoint. For the DHDs in the game it really doesnt matter. The glyphs on the gate were made by myself and Richard cutting bits of carrymat into random shapes and don't match anything canonical anyway

In the series, they sometimes dial 6 glyphs before the button and sometimes 7. I think of this discrepancy as a minor continuity error.
6 glyphs and the button are used to make a connection, this also allows for DHDs to be moved as the point of origin glyph doesn't have to be on the DHD.
It's canon that the gate network periodically transmits updates to the DHDs so moving one shouldn't be a problem.
We use our gate computer because it allows us to override certain error protocols and get a connection that a DHD may well refuse. Not always a good idea but it can come in handy at times. (nothing to do with only having 2 DHD physreps at all)
