Combat styleI think we are perhaps looking at the combat rules from the wrong angle.
I think it would be better to look at how we tend to play and want to play then adjust the rules to fit rather look at the rules as they are now.
In my experience most people play more in the spirit than the rules so they take hits they could have used vitailiy against if it is sensible to take them ie a shot they didn't know was coming or a blow from a melee weapon.
I've seen both players and crew play that way and I approve.
I think vitality is a good thing but I see it as that cinamatic thing where the bullets, staff shots whatever hit all around the character but not actually on them. Personally I can't ractionalise that when someone gets a direct hit on me with say a sword.. they hit therefore they got the blow in.
maybe it's cos the style of play I'm most comfoartable with is a fairly realsitic, contact heavy style but from playing this game for a while most players seem to be on that side of the fence rather than none contact..
I can safely say from the brouses on my legs that those playing jaffa on the mothership were certianly making contact and before anyone worries that is NOT a complaint, it is the reality of what happens.
When I grappled one of the Go'ald i did more than tap him on the shoulder.. how the hell can you roleplay a grapple by tapping someone on the shoulder?? We both had both hands on each other it is the only way to judge what would be happening. I'm not advocating actuatly throwing someone or anything (unless you know each otehr very well or scripted it in advance) but to roleplay unarmed convincingly you need enough contact with the other person to be able to signal to each other what is going to happen next.
