To save on a lot of Faff with new characters knowing nothing of whet they've been transferred into, could we not have a induction video to explain what the SEF is all about?
All it needs is a sufficiently high ranking character (The Brigadier perhaps?) to stand / sit in front of a camera and deliver the induction (as per Daniel Jackson's vids in SGU)?
We could then put those vids on the club's website and new characters can be assumed to have gone through all that prior to showing up... _________________ My Livejournal | My myspace | My Photobucket |

That could also be a good way of establishing canon to new players.
I like the idea, though. _________________ J.T. van Horne |

To be honest I assumed something like that had happened to me as a new character, since I figured having a new character consantly asking questions can get very dull after a while.
There where some stuff I had to ask about, and some stuff I just did not believe u ntil shown however I assumed that some how and somewhere someone had explained the basics to me.
Actually Phys Repping it could be interesting... _________________ Nicholas Cvjetkovich (RN)

The induction approach to new characters does vary from event to event, depending on how many of them there are.
I do think an induction video, or pack could be useful and save time but should only cover the basics as sometimes finding out can be half the fun.
However in order to do a video, and do one well we need the following -
A decent backdrop/venue. It has to look like an office or room in an SEF base, not someone's living/bedroom.
A player who is willing to do this, especially if the video is hosted on You Tube as well as the website.
Decent digital video camera and editing suite to make it look like a proper induction video (with logo, titles etc).
A pre-agreed script.
When we have these in place then I think we can do a decent job. _________________ Former CMO..

Funnily enough Polly was planning to shoot one for the last event and then time ran out.
Then we watched SGU and decided not to mention it as no one would ever believe we hadn't just ripped the idea off _________________ Col. J. P. Modeski

Green screen and chromakey for the backdrop (I have a green material that's supposed to be used for that purpose, and the software that claims to be able to do the job - but I've never tested it) - which means that a still of an office or military backdrop (or our gate) would do the job nicely. _________________ My Livejournal | My myspace | My Photobucket |

Chromakey is finnicky even with expensive tools like Shake. Perhaps better to insert stills with commentary for the 'this is a stargate' bits. Location shoot the rest in an office, or with someone newsreader-style behind a desk. _________________ J.T. van Horne |

Must admit I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.
I'll add it to my 'to do' list...
