Have had a very quick look and these seem really good and like a lot of work has gone into them - thanks to everyone who's put them together. _________________ "Kate"

hi guys long time no see.
Did a quick read of the rules and some initial questions spring to mind. They may be answered on the forum as not read in a while but thought i would post them up while I thought about it
1 ) You have 3 new engineering skills what about Bio engineering?
2 ) Are there going toi be any advanced/alien biology skills?
3 ) does a biologist now need to buy first aid as well then?
4 ) How long does a teacher have to spend to give the 1 month saving?
5 ) how many people can a teacher teach at once?
6 ) Learning times on medical skills?
7 ) how does ciphers work now? does it actually have a use?
8 ) can you now submit a downtime if you don't make an event? if so what parts of it?
9 ) do I need to register my character with anyone? if so who? in case I can make a game again ever

That's one of the things I am hoping to develop IC starting with this downtime. I can finally do some proper research into all the biological samples of aliens, particularly the Jaffa and Ga'ould collected over the years and get some answers.
In enough time, I hope that the refs will allow a veteran skill of Alien Physiology - (insert name of group of aliens ie Tokra/Ga'ould/Jaffa or another, different branch of alien).
I have to talk this through with the ref team etc but what I like now is the sense that the game can now grow according to what the characters are doing. _________________ Former CMO..

I'm in two minds here. I like what has been done, a lot of it is stuff that really should have been like it from the start. My concern is that splitting skills up into different sub sets will heavily knock back current players abilities. _________________ Colonel Thomas Thorne R.E. (Ret.) BSc, PhD, MC & bar

1. That falls into the biology category - and indeed someone actually has it as a specialsm - but it's not in the rules as it's not a main skill. As it states not all skills are in the rulebook, and there are certainly a lot of people out there with skills that aren't in the book : BioEngineering, Infectious Diseases, Neurosurgery, Catering to name but three.
2. The downtime alien technology skills is dependant on characters doing research on them, if research is done then the skills will be increased.
3. Yes
4. 1 Month
5. As many as needed
6. Page 18 : During Downtime Medic takes 3 Months to learn, Paramedic takes 7 months to learn and Doctor takes 25 months to learn.
7. It's always had a use, just down to event writers to actually put in ciphers for people to deal with.
8. You need to have crewed or played (or payed for) an event to have a full downtime. If you don't make a downtime your "Upkeep" (bodybuilder/expert bodybuilder) are kept up and you don't have to re-learn them. But I'm allowing people who have not had downtimes due to referee's not getting them in the past and not answering them - to have one this once to catch up on the state of affairs - mainly the research and miscellaneous sections if people haven't had answers on them.
9. Me, but I already have it Tom _________________

Again, like my answer to Tom is that people already have Alien Physiology - (name of alien) - because they've been researching it during downtime.
It states that not all the skills that are available are in the books. It's all down to what people do with their research to be able to open up these new skills.
The problem has been that people have not had decent downtime returns for a very long time and therefore their character progression has been limited to the people who have shouted and spoken the largest - and i don't mean that in a negative manner - just that the people who are most vocal have been the people who have been getting the items which aren't in the books.
Now I'm responsible for all that sort of things, it will go purely on the information contained within the downtimes. If people want to get Alien Phyisology - Bumblemouse, I certainly have no issue with that.
For the alien technology skills during downtime, they become "unlocked" as people researched them. Hence the addition of the ethernaut technologies, goa'uld shielding etc... due to player characters researching them. As more players fill in the "research" sections with these type of objects - they'll become unlocked after future events. _________________

thanks for the comments Jd Will discuss futher stuff with you over pm.
re downtimes. I would like to see some way for people not making events able to stay in touch. As well as the lack of response on some dt questions one of the reasons i drifted away was it felt there was no way I could stay in touch with the game if i was not making them.
I don't think characters should progress in the same way if they don't make games but it would be nice if they could do bits and pieces so at least you feel you can continue to interact on the boards.
Getting asked to do research for example and not being able to do it as not able to make a game means people stop talking to you and asking you to do it.
I like to see how downtime is broken down now and think certain things characters should still be able to do.
This could be dependant on being a member for example though (at this point in time I don't see much point in joining other than to try and shout please run a game I can make) On the other hand if being a member meant you could do research downtime and use skills like dreaming spires then this would allow characters to stay engaged and then they can feed that info in report into games. I would also have the proviso from the refs that if you do research and can not make a game they are free to pass on results in game if it is important for the plot of the game.
I hope that makes sense. It is sort of being able to keep your character involved while not really benefiting but still obviously existing as a character in the game.
to add one other things I also think the refs should be free to move pc's around out of positions of responsibility as I have had that in other systems and it stinks that something stagnates due to an old characters stopping other moving on. Polite to talk to the player of that character but refs have to be happy to do what is best for the game.
Anyway some thoughts hope to see you all again sometime
Tom
